今年買俾自己o既聖誕禮物益o左任天堂，本來只有興趣買快要推出的PlayStation Vita，但係聽聞o係日本推出後，好多人投訴出現無厘頭死機問題，反而3ds喺早前減至$170後，聖誕再減至$140，仲平過部NDS，所以忍唔住買o左部，同埋隻我之前從未玩過o既Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time。不過遲下出PSV，我諗我都係會買，因為Uncharted係近年我最鍾意o既game，再加上遲下仲有Final Fantasy X，買硬。

講返3ds，d 畫面同顏色都唔錯，感覺上同PSP差唔多啦，至於個3D效果都幾出，不過個角度窄 d，可能技術未夠成熟，同埋玩得一段時間，係會覺得對眼唔舒服，呢樣嘢我相信係冇得克服。而家就玩緊Zelda，希望佢將來再出其他好game，而最重要的，係快d推出3ds版本o既R4，ho ho ho。

翻睇檞寄生

最近都冇乜特別, 又係返工, 而且已經做緊農曆新年特刊, 所以雖然快到聖誕, 但係全無任何xmas feel. 但係尋日有個喺youtube上面識o既女仔朋友, 佢喺香港過嚟西雅圖探家姐, 當佢地上嚟溫哥華行下嗰時, 順便約我出嚟見下面, 仲送咗幾樣嘢俾我, 真係非常感激佢, 一定留到boxing day嗰日先開D手信.

當然, 自從唔知幾多年前開始, 每年聖誕我都會翻睇痞子蔡嗰本經典小說檞寄生, 今年都唔會例外, 將會再翻睇多次. 雖然我都鍾意睇畢華流同金庸等, 但係呢本檞寄生先係我最鍾意睇o既中文小說, 真係寫得太好, 當寫好笑對白o既部份, 係真係好笑, 但係亦大量好有意思o既金句, 其中好多角色都好正, 而最聰明o既, 當然就係個書名檞寄生, 完全貼合晒本書o既故事同角色關係. 可惜呢本係蔡智恆o既最高峰, 連佢自己都唔可以再寫出咁好o既小說.

近況

由於早排大病一場，加上聖誕季度忙於打機，再加上民主黨區選並冇仆街性失利，對我脆弱心靈作出巨大破壞，所以已經好一排冇打blog，其實我都知咁唔係幾好，因為將來想睇返呢段時間我做過乜，只留下一片空白，冇可能會記得返。

最近返工好多o野做，因為我嗰組唔計個老闆，只得三個人，有兩個走o左，要請新人，我突然變o左做o野最快最熟手o個個，所以要寫好多o野。其實多o野做冇乜所謂，但係多o野交就多機會出錯，真係非常兇險。但係我老闆係個好人，私下亦係好朋友，又係第一個請我做份穩定職業o既人，所以呢段時間幫到佢我係非常樂意。不過聽佢講好似打算賣樓退休，而我而家呢份工基本上唔係人做的，都係睇在佢份上先冇周圍搵工，所以最近已有心理準備要搵過份新工。不過事業o既o野我都唔係好擔心，因為根本就冇任何前境，都係垃圾工換垃圾工，正是本來無一物，何處惹塵埃。

o係事業上我係唔會有機會得到任何滿足感的，所以要由我個youtube頻道填補，每次有人話我真聰明或真有學識o個時，雖然我知道自己只係小學，事實上既不聰明亦只係學識有限，但係都開心知道有人覺得我唔係一個 unemployable o既廢人，唔係好似我見過工o既所有教會咁諗。當然，最近特別過癮的，係見到影音使團單挪亞方舟o野，而家逾搞逾大鑊，本來都冇咁多回響，但係由於有幾位牧師傳道公開提出質疑，影音接連出o左兩篇號外數臭呢d教牧，成功爭取更多其他教牧反擊，而家變成被圍攻之勢。我唔認為影音會因此而改變，亦唔會因而收皮，但係佢地咁多倒行逆施o既作為多d人知道，總是好事。過幾日我亦會去睇佢地齣電影，我其中一個聽眾話，佢識得租地方俾溫哥華影音使團o個個業主，佢同影音班大佬講，如果佢唔同我地對話，就叫個業主收舖，所以電影播完後會同我地見面云云，唔知會點發展，不過就一定帶定錄音筆，希望訪問到袁文輝，俾個機會佢向我d聽眾澄清一下，俾晒位佢上，佢好應該多謝我先係。

我已經多次去教會講道，但係其實用嚟用去都係得兩篇寫得好o既，其他有幾篇用過一次之後我就覺得唔掂。不過最近去Coquitlam一間教會講嘢，竟然撞手神寫o左一篇特別好o既，所以而家我有三篇好咁大把，分別係"Aaron the Servant of God", "Ask and It'll be Given to You: Is that a Lie?", 同埋最新o既"The Temple, a Fig Tree, and Sandwiches in the Gospel of Mark"。而家嗰間嘢話想請我定期每兩個月去一次，我都唔介意去，不過我擔心之後我 d 講道質素會插水式下滑，咁就變咗搵人老襯。

基督教護教學已走到末路？

主要就係講o係美國一間叫做Calvin College o既基督教機構，有兩個聖經教授，John Schneider同Daniel Harlow因為各自o係佢地o既文章中對聖經中一 d 故事o既歷史性提出質疑，所以好多當地基督徒向校方施壓，要踢走佢地。其中前者已經辭職唔撈，而後者就仲頂住... 暫時。

文中又提及，其實我母校Trinity Western University一個 Bio 教授亦講，雖然佢係基督徒，但係需要講人類冇可能源自兩個人（即亞當同夏娃）。不過我母校算開明，呢個教授仲未出事... 暫時。

其實呢 d 新聞令我覺得，其實傳統o個套基督教護教學本來就係非常脆弱，現今已經走到絕路，"聖經入面所有故事，每一個細節都係符合科學同歷史"，呢個係一條不可能守得住o既防線。不過，亦唔代表基督教護教學就此玩完，但極需要更新論述，唔好再當聖經係歷史教科書或天文通識書。我認為而家呢個階段，呢班基督徒學者出o黎指出聖經有邊幾條不可防守的防線，就係想進行呢個革新的第一步，可惜有班古老石山基督徒當正佢地係異端，唔肯及早面對現實，重新起步。

頭先喺 email 度收到最新版本 BibleWorks 9 o既廣告. 雖然係唔會買, 不過都有留意下有乜新o野.

非常可惜, 基本上係冇乜有用o既新o野, 尤其係 primary text 方面, 非常缺乏. 唯一我覺得有少少興趣o既, 就係個 Manuscript Project, 據講有相片同埋 transcription. 對於時常要做新約 textual criticism o既人嚟講, 係有用o既, 對我就冇乜用, 只係得個有型.

結論: 買一定唔會; download可以考慮一下, 其實都未必. 令人失望o既新 version.

又多一個該亞法骨盒？

最近o係度諗，呢個blog用o黎做乜好，因為以前我會寫出o黎o既話題，而家就轉為錄落youtube度，個blog變o左冇乜用。

以呢d報導睇，就係冇幾耐之前，有幾個非法販賣古物o既人被差佬拉o左，o係佢地d貨入面，發現有呢個骨盒，上面寫住"Miriam daughter of Yeshua son of Caiaphas, priest of Maaziah from Beth Imri"。最近就出o左個官方報告，經Bar Ilan U 同埋 Tel Aviv U o既專家考核後，認為呢個骨盒係真貨。

而家未睇到骨盒上面d字，但係我會好想睇下該亞法寫成點。因為之前有另一個"該亞法骨盒" ，被Craig Evans等學者質疑，話上面其實寫o既並唔係該亞法個名，而係"高法"之類。呢個係一個值得 follow o既新聞。

Definitely, Maybe

我一向都鍾意睇動作片，恐怖片，殺人片，鬼片，好少睇Romance Comedy，不過都有例外，例如Jerry Maguire就好鍾意，時常翻睇，另一例外就係呢齣Definitely Maybe。主角係Ryan Reynolds，自從睇過佢做Van Wilder之後就一直都鍾意睇佢，因佢好樣得o黎又幾搞笑。呢齣戲入面，由頭到尾都係關於佢，話說佢係一個正在辦離婚o既人，有個女，有晚個女逼佢講點樣發展到同佢個媽咪結婚，所以佢就開始講佢後生o既故事，有三個女人對佢都好重要，但係就唔會講邊個先係佢後來個老婆，叫佢個女自己估，有 d 似愛情版本偵探小說。

其實個故事講乜都唔係好重要，而事實上，個故事本身亦唔係突出，只不過其中夾雜好多男主角多次夢想被打破，o係好多事上"退而求其次"o既經歷，幾真實。呢齣戲最吸引我o既係 d 角色，除o左我本來就鍾意o既男主角外，佢個女亦非常討喜。須知道我一向都好憎細路，但係演呢個細路o既Agibail Breslin相當唔錯，完全冇細路演員扮 cutie o既舉止，同埋全片最抵死o既對白，都集中o係呢兩父女上面，例如﹕

不過全片最突出o既係3個女仔中其中o既April，呢齣戲係我第一次見Isla Fishero既演出，做得非常好，同男主角之間 chemistry 相當不俗，又 sweet，又真正關心個男主角，完全可以感受到佢地之間若即若離o既感情，由佢演3個女仔中o既"真愛"非常有說服力，比著我都會最鍾意佢。其實我覺得佢之後做購物狂o個齣亦不錯，不過比起 Definitely, Maybe 中o既演出，係差幾皮。

好多年前已經睇過, 最近由於搬屋, 冇咗internet所以生活冇晒趣味, 得閒過頭, 所以攞返出嚟睇. 雖然好多人話唔好睇, 比起導演o既前作大為不如. 我都覺得冇Jerry Maguire咁經典, 不過都唔係差, 雖然對白同情節都欠缺重心, 但係由於男女主角我都覺得算討喜, 所以呢齣戲我其實係相當鍾意, 尤其係女主角, 因為我一向都唔鍾意蜘蛛女Kirsten Dunst, 但係喺呢齣戲入面, 我覺得佢好正, 簡直係 dream girl.

我最鍾意嗰幕係男女主角當時未熟, 不過有一次講通頂講電話, 索性順便約埋去睇日出, 好有feel, 我覺得咁安排幾好, 比起就咁"一見鍾情"式睇上眼更有說服力, 雖然都係快, 不過起碼觀眾睇得出呢兩個人係幾夾, 至少有做好朋友o既潛質, 所以撻著亦在情理之中.

導演Cameron Crowe電影入面o既女性形象都好正, 例如Jerry Maguire入面o既Dorothy Boyd, 樣又cute, 性格又好, 喺個男仔處於低潮o既時候講埋 d 勵志金句, 而Elizabethtown入面o既 Claire 亦一樣咁完美, 雖然係唔真實, 不過睇戲 je. 例如呢一幕, 個男主角搞老豆葬禮搞到一頭煙, 個女仔就適時以一個好鬼馬o既形式出現, 話: "How can I leave you in distress? I'm taking you out." 真係仲美好過睇格林童話.

另一幕我好鍾意睇o既就係女主角朝早走嗰時特登搞到好嘈, 想個男主角起身留佢食早餐之類, d 小動作好搞笑. 雖然個女主角贏晒, 不過齣戲本身係有多少令人失望, 完全冇Jerry Maguire嗰種令人睇完覺得有所得著, 精神一振o既感覺, 除咗Claire嗰部份之外, 故事幾條線都唔算好吸引. 不過當然, 我都係會推介值得一睇.

PGA College & Theological Seminary

我好似冇喺度提過, 幾個月之前, 我開始喺Surrey一間學校度教聖經科, 佢地只得幾個學生, 全部都係英文唔係好叻, 但係對聖經科好有興趣o既韓國學生. 初初我都唔係好鍾意喺度教, 人工超低, 每堂教3粒鐘, 只得$100, 不過後來同班學生熟咗, 覺得佢地好用心, 就覺得教下都無妨. 而且由於間學校長期冇人肯幫佢地教書, 所以個校長當正我係神咁拜, 我同d學生有時走入佢間office度偷佢 d 杯麵食都得, 佢又叫我做"professor", 雖然只係一個冇任何實質意義o既title...

我第一次教Intro to the OT, 後來又教NT Background, Psalms and Wisdom Lit., 下年會教Synoptic Gospels, 應該都會幾好玩. 同埋我上個月同個校長講, 我要加30%人工, 佢苦起塊面話好窮, 講一大輪, 然後加我20%...唉, 好過冇啦, 雖然有時我星期日去講半個鐘頭道就已經$120.

我都好希望呢間學校可以搞得好d, 多d學生, 第日喺度打份全職文員工都好, 但係個牧師校長唔似做嘢好叻o既人, 亦唔似有魄力搞起間學校, 所以睇怕都係冇乜前途, 只可以當玩下攞下經驗.

Book of Eli

This movie tells the story of a guy who possesses the last bible on earth after the apocalypse. For strange reasons, all the bad guys want to rob him of the bible because they believe that the bible will help conquering the world (something like that).

The movie is OK, but I do feel bad for Eli that he risked so much to protect and came to memorize a King James Bible, which is textually inferior to most other translations of the bible out there. And I love how the movie made a big deal of how Eli recited the entire bible starting from Genesis, while one shot of the movie showed that the last library on earth had a copy of the Tanakh--the Hebrew Bible... Eli could have started from the New Testament, that would have saved him a lot of effort.

I was surprised that I actually liked this movie. Though very much predictable, I found it quite engaging throughout till the last scene. The main characters offer solid performances. The young "Chloe" has done equally well as Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson, which came as a surprise. I think I've seen the girl in other movies, but she looks very different in the role of Chloe. All of a sudden, she looks very pretty, sexy, and seductive, extremely convincing in this role and makes the story work. The image of her huge green eyes staring at the camera still lingers in my mind.

The erotic scene between the two female characters shocked me too. I never expected Julianne Moore to appear in such a scene, much less with a much younger actress.

妖獸都市

I read about this anime movie on magazines so many times when I was in elementary school. But never got a chance to watch it (a rated R movie, not suitable for a grade 4 student), and finally did this afternoon while I was preparing for next week's class in the Old Testament. Yes, I often prepare sermons and classes while listening to angry music or watching rated R movies.

It is surprisingly good. I liked it a lot. The drawing isn't exactly stellar, but it has its style that fits the overall mood of the anime. The violence and sex are stunning, both help in drawing the viewer into the story. The plot doesn't really make sense, but the universe that it creates is quite interesting. Worth watching. I can see why it's a classic.

How was the Jesus Boat discovered?

It was a real surprise. After four years of drought, in 1986 the Sea of Galilee had retreated. Two brothers, Jewish fishermen, were walking on the exposed seabed and found coins, pieces of wood, and iron nails. They called us to check into it.

We started cleaning some of the boat, and suddenly we saw the mortise and tenon joints. We found a Roman oil lamp and a Roman cooking pot. It was a boat from Roman times! This is what we had been waiting for.

At that moment, there appeared a beautiful double rainbow. It was like a blessing. We danced there like Indians from happiness.

Then the problems started. The wood was completely waterlogged so it was like wet cardboard. Our boss at the Department of Antiquities didn't have equipment. Our group was just two archaeologists, two fishermen, and two others. We had only three buckets and two shovels. An expedition like this normally brings with it a million dollars, a year of preparation, laboratories, and a 40-person professional crew.

It seemed like mission impossible. We needed miracles. Everything was a miracle on this boat. People were so fantastic. People from the nearby kibbutz worked day and night. Christians, Jews, Arabs—everybody joined in. Luckily for us, American ambassador Thomas Pickering and his wife jumped in the mud with us. He helped us get funding and preservation material.

Somebody leaked to the press that this was a Turkish treasure boat that everybody had been [seeking] for 200 years. The area became a madhouse. People trekked over the site looking for gold. People with guns were chasing each other from the site. In the end, we had to be protected by police and guard dogs.

I had never been on an excavation where security people protected us, but where we also had an ice cream van and hot dog stands. People came in droves just to watch. At one point, 13 television stations from around the world were filming what was going on. It's the best recorded excavation I know of.

But then it started to rain. The drought was over, and the water was rising. If we left the boat where it was, it would be preserved. In another 200 years, maybe somebody else would find it. So we raced against time to clean the boat before the water reached it. We built dikes around it to continue the work.

It was so fragile. How did you get it out of the mud?

We built fiberglass ribs to support it, but they were not enough. So we made a cocoon out of plastic foam. We thought that maybe the foam cocoon would float. So we opened the dike, and after 2,000 years, the boat floated again on the Sea of Galilee. It floated about three kilometers to where we had built a pool, by the Yigal Allon Museum.

We then had to take off the plastic. It was worse than the mud. If it were cut with a hot knife, it would produce cyanide. So we had to use our fingernails.

We filled the pool with sweet water until 60,000 liters of polyethylene glycol arrived almost a year later from India, courtesy of Dow Chemical. One day, we noticed that the boat was full of worms. There were eggs in the mud from 2,000 years ago. We're talking Jurassic Park here. We could fight it with the chemicals, but then we'd pollute the water, and it would take another 10 years to get rid of that. We brought in experts from the U.S., but nobody knew how to do it without pollution. All the time, the fishermen stood around smiling. Finally they said, "Leave it to us; it won't cost anything." So they brought some goldfish and carp. The fish lived off the parasites for a year.

【本報訊】立場保守的基督教右派，近年在本港發展得聲勢浩大，不但呼籲信眾以白票反公投，還打壓信眾參與社會運動。宗教霸權關注行動成員秦晞輝表示，中國基督教播道會恩福堂一名有 10年信仰的 80後女信眾，懷疑因積極參加反高鐵運動，去年準備受洗前夕突遭教會喝停，批評右派教牧強迫信眾保皇。

秦晞輝昨日在「反對宗教護蔭權貴」記者會上，分享一名女性友人在教會內遭到邊緣化的經歷。他說這位 80後女性友人，已經有 10年信仰，是一位虔誠的基督信徒，但平日在教會內，得不到其他信眾認同，原因是她經常參與社運，包括反高鐵運動，每年也風雨不改出席六四集會與 7.1遊行，「佢每次同其他信眾講開呢啲社會議題，大家就傾唔埋，慢慢佢覺得自己喺教會內俾人邊緣化，有時甚至有活動都唔預埋佢參與。」

秦表示，有教會高層甚至對其友人說，盡量減少參與社運，「佢同我朋友講，做基督徒唔應該去呢啲集會。」但被友人一口拒絕。

主任牧師立場親建制友人原本準備於去年接受洗禮，並已完成了教會內要求的三個受洗前課程，然而在受洗前夕，有教會高層卻向她表示，暫時不能安排她受洗，原因是她的信仰未夠深，未適合受洗。秦坦言事件雖然對其友人帶來不少衝擊，但幸好沒有影響她參與社運的決心，「佢決定繼續留喺教會裏面，因為佢相信，有朝一日可以改變其他信眾嘅睇法， tune（調節）返正大家。」

繼影音使團世紀鉅作"驚世啓示"之後, 最近返團契又睇到另一齣非常嚇人o既教會電影, 叫"Fireproof", 竟然係一齣宣揚港女價值, 金錢至上, 物質主義o既教會福音電影, 可謂奇片, 日後會講下.

回想, 其實我好少會鍾意睇教會電影, 因為通常都拍得太露骨, 反而有時睇普通電影, 我覺得當中講/宣傳基督教價值仲來得有效. 例如呢齣"聽說" (唔係教會電影), 講基督教家庭o既兩姊妹o既生活, 我就覺得好好睇, 自然得來又感人, 拍出兩姊妹否定自我, 爭先為對方犠牲o既精神. 一般咁o既角色, 都會令人覺得好假, 不過就正是佢地o既基督教背景, 令成件事變得合理.有時唔係要 hard-sell 先至入腦的; 不停夾硬來的, 叫"催眠".

"聽說"係我最鍾意o既 2009 電影, 雖然故事簡單, 但係幾乎每個角色我都好鍾意, 唯一差少少係個男主角比較淺薄. 而我最鍾意係全片o既氣氛, 因為故事講聾/啞人, 大部份對白都用手語交代, 但係個導演冇用另一把聲配音落 d 手語度, 而係要觀眾睇字幕, 效果竟然極為出色, 反而令人睇得非常投入. 當然, 自從"這裡發現愛"後, 早就鍾意睇陳妍希, 所以喺呢齣電影入面有佢做家姐, 我就更加鍾意睇.

之前喺 Ontario, 都係用 Bell o既 DSL 上網, 但係當時就已經聽講過 TekSavvy 係一間好好多o既公司. 返到嚟 Vancouver, 我就開始用 TekSavvy, 因為 Shaw 同 Telus 都冇無限頻宽, 用到 60-100 GB 咁上下, 就會 cut 你, 好麻煩. 而 TekSavvy 就價錢差唔多, 但係用幾多都冇所謂, 理論上, 一個月可以用 200 GB, 如果俾多十蚊雞就可以變無限, 但係我其實每個月都一定用多過 200 GB (因為最近好多新 game 出), 佢地都冇出聲. 速度正常. 同埋以我個人經驗, 電話服務 d 人相當有禮, Bell/Telus 班不該差好遠.

唯一唔好就係因為 TekSavvy 其實都係用 Telus d 工具, 所以當 setup o既時候, 其實係要透過 Telus 嚟做, 而 Telus 就會玩嘢, 拖遲 d 嘢嚟做, 簡單事情複雜化, 令 d 無知o既人以為係 TekSavvy o既服務差. 賤到無倫. Telus 同 Shaw 一向都係獨大, 玩晒, 所以不管服務質素幾差, 溫哥華居民都要忍佢, 雖然 TekSavvy 喺 set up 嗰時有可能會麻煩少少, 但係都唔要用 Telus/Shaw, 作為抗議.

有 d 電影, 雖然唔係特別好睇, 但係唔知點解會特別鍾意. 早幾日睇到一齣我覺得唔算係好特別, 但係我自己就好鍾意o既電影, 叫 Adventureland. 幾日前睇咗另一齣我好鍾意o既戲, 叫 Zombieland (第日再寫), 好鍾意入面個男主角, 所以順便睇埋佢o既另一齣新戲, 就係 Adventureland. 本來以為係好似 Euro Trip 之類o既青春喜劇, 但係其實故事相當成熟寫實, 甚至有少少負面.

我好少特別鍾意邊個男演員, 但係呢個我鍾意. 故事講佢係一個讀比較文學o既人, 考咗入哥倫比亞大學o既研究院, 但係唔夠錢去讀, 想搵暑期工又乜都搵唔到, 最後去咗一個遊樂場做嘢, 齣戲就講佢呢段時間o既經驗. 唔使多講, 知我背景o既, 都應該能夠明白點解呢齣戲一開始我就睇得投入, 因為主角嗰種迷失 feel, 我真係身同感受. 其實故事冇乜大上大落, 平平咁講到尾, 但係我就由頭到尾都唔覺有任何一刻悶場. 睇個主角最後終於去咗 New York, 雖然唔係佢計劃咁發生, 但係都為佢高興.

另一個我好鍾意呢齣戲o既原因係因為佢o既音樂, 個導演選 d 歌真係好好聽. 呢齣戲個 setting 係喺 80 年代, 所以個故事有講到對草, 連反猶主義都有講到, 但係最能夠突出 80 年代 feel o既, 始終都係 d 音樂. 其中一幕, 幾個主角喺度睇烟花, 用嗰隻歌就好夾個 feel:

除主角外, 其他幾個配角我都鍾意, 其中最正就係呢個食煙斗, 讀俄羅斯文學而失戀又失業o既 Joel, 佢不時講 d 好正o既金句, 又係主角o既益友, 好正. 做靚女 Lisa P. 嗰個女仔亦幾靚, 有說服力, 後來睇返, 先知原來呢個就係喺 The Invisible 入面做 Annie 嗰個, 當時就已經覺佢靚. 以下係其中一段我最鍾意o既對白, 我打算背起佢, 將來人地問到, 我就照答.

最近溫哥華冬季奧運嗰份 x-ray 工開始咗, 所以都冇乜時間寫嘢, 不過今日難得放假, 又有精神, 就講下最近睇過一齣我覺得好正o既舊片, 叫十二怒漢. 差不多成齣戲就由十二個人做晒, 場景亦主要只得一個, 就係一間房, 但係齣戲由頭到尾都好刺激, 絶無冷場, 真係神乎奇技.

故事講到有個由十二人組成o既陪審團, 要決定一宗殺人案o既 suspect 係咪有罪, 而結果一定要十二人都同意先可以成立. 故事開始嗰時, 本來十二個人當中有十一個人覺得立即就可以達成一致意見, 定個人有罪, 但係其中一個人覺得有花多少少時間討論o既必要, 而成齣戲, 就講如何由一個人覺得要判無罪, 變成十二人認為要判無罪, 當中過程好好睇, 雖然只係得把口講, 但一 d 都唔悶. 而我最鍾意o既地方, 就係嗰十二個主角, 到齣戲完o既時候, 會覺得對佢地每一個都相當熟悉, 雖然話"主角"係當初力排眾議嗰個人, 但係都唔係佢一個人玩晒, 因為佢都有盲點, 其他成員都不時有 d 精明o既發現, 好多角色都有表現o既機會.

總結: 連我呢種只鐘意睇動作片/恐怖片o既人都咁鐘意睇呢齣全無動作, 只有對白, 場景簡單o既電影, 算係一個異數. 大力推薦, 應該必人都會鐘意睇.

北帝見証

時常喺教會聽人講見証時都會心諗, 其實佢地講嗰 d "神蹟"/"奇事"唔証明乜嘢, 因為其他宗教都一樣有咁多同樣o既見証. 例如, 香港冧樓事件後, 就見到呢一篇"証實"北帝大能o既見証.

Archaeologists have discovered the first known burial shroud in Jerusalem from the time of Christ's crucifixion - and say it casts serious doubt on the claimed authenticity of the Turin Shroud.

Ancient shrouds from the period have been found before in the Holy Land, but never in Jerusalem.

Researchers say the weave and design of the shroud discovered in a burial cave near Jerusalem's Old City are completely different to the Turin Shroud.

Radiocarbon tests and artefacts found in the cave prove almost beyond doubt that it was from the same time of Christ's death.

It was made with a simple two-way weave - not the twill weave used on the Turin Shroud, which textile experts say was introduced more than 1,000 years after Christ lived.

And instead of being a single sheet like the famous item in Turin, the Jerusalem shroud is made up of several sections, with a separate piece for the head.

I'm not so desperate that I need to hang myself in the near future, but it is very very very true that I don't see an academic future for myself AT ALL.

A ridiculously lame sermon

In the past two weeks, I've been going to a church called Newbern Alliance which is somewhat close to where I live in Vancouver. I've tried both the English and the Chinese services, the former definitely seems better. Everybody was so long-winded in the Chinese service that I attended: the guys who led the singing said there's no need to say much because the songs' lyrics are so well written, and then he gave a speech on the song... But the worst was during the communion. The guy who administered the communion gave a 15-min SERMON on the purpose of communion right after the official lengthy sermon.

In any case, so I decided to go to the English service. And last week, at the English service, I chanced upon one of the most ridiculous sermons I ever heard, an experience totally worth recording.

The speaker's speech had a title, something along the line of "spiritual inputs & outputs". He began with Matthew 12 and James 3, saying that we gotta watch our tongues, which is the "output". But that'd be too simple, so he went on to say that we also got to manage our "input", so we'll have the right "output". He encouraged us to throw away our DVDs, video games, and music CDs, which might pollute our pure mind, just as a drop of cyanide can poison an entire cup of water. He then cited Job 6.24: "Teach me, and I will be silent; And show me how I have erred." According to this guy, Job found out that the reason why he suffered so much was because of what he had said; he didn't watch his tongue, so he lost his family and properties. So how shall we watch our tongues? He suggested that we shall not utter expressions such as: "unbelievable", "break a leg", and "it blew my mind". These are exaggerations that we don't mean. If we speak unreal things in the morning, our prayers at night will have no chance of being realized, or so he suggested.

Now, this sermon errs in so many points that it is difficult to criticize in a systematic manner, but I'll try. First, his two key passages, Matt 12 and James 3, do condemn the practice of bad-mouthing (output), but they don't talk about the inputs at all. Matt 12 relates bad fruits to bad trees, but it says nothing of what inputs the tree has received to become bad in the first place! So one of the 2 main points that he's making isn't even talked about in the biblical passages that he focused on. The other support for his point about inputs is the cyanide analogy. But whenever someone appeals to analogy as an argument, we should see a red flag. While it sounds reasonable, we have to question what is cyanide in water to do with DVDs in our life? I can argue in the same manner in the opposite direction: just as a chicken dropped into the Pacific Ocean won't turn the ocean into chicken soup, DVDs won't have much effect to our spiritual life. There, analogies don't make conclusive arguments.

His interpretation of Job 6 is even worse. It says: "Teach me, and I will be silent; And show me how I have erred." Job isn't saying he suffered because he spoke to much, and now he shall shut the hell up. It says it right there in this passage, he has no idea why he suffered at all, that's why he challenges God to "show me how I have erred". If God can tell him even just one thing he had done wrong, he'll shut up; otherwise he'll keep whining. And this speaker turned this passage around to say the exact opposite. Man, this is just bad exegesis.

The applications of these teachings are equally lame. Regarding the inputs, I have already said that his teachings find no basis in the 3 main passages that he cited. Regarding the outputs, although Matt 12 and James 3 do talk about controlling tongues, I'm pretty sure they do not mean to say that it is wrong to say "unbelievable" or "mind-blowing". They're talking about curses, blaspheming against the holy spirit; they're not forbidding the use of figures of speech and rhetorics. In fact, the bible itself does that all the time. When it describes God as a man with hands, or a heart, it isn't being untruthful to its readers. Any sane person will recognize the use of anthropomorphism in such descriptions. Why not?

Well, all in all, this sermon was so unbelievably lame that it is mind-blowing.

被公認為性情溫和、樂於助人的虔誠教會執事，與同為聾啞的已婚女教友發生婚外情，女教友疑苦苦相纏要求執事離婚，執事不勝其煩下涉以刀捅殺女教友。事發三日後，執事哭著向教會牧師和盤托出殺人一事，並到警署寫下自首信。執事被控一項謀殺罪，案件昨於高院開審。

　　死者丈夫梁偉光昨供稱，事發當日早上十一時，他帶兩名兒子到父母西區寓所，妻子原答應一同晚飯，但未有現身；晚上十時他返到沙田新翠村新明樓寓所，赫見妻子躺於血泊中，毫無動靜，遂立即傳真通知被告、父親及教會傳道人鄺志雄，鄺趕到現場助他報警。救護員到場後證實吳已死亡，驗屍報告指死因是胸口被刀捅傷。

　　控方指出，與被告相識近十年的教會牧師高偉光，於同月十六日應被告妻子通知到其寓所會面，被告一見高即哭起來懺悔，承認自己用刀捅死吳桂芳，指死者要求他離婚及娶她。被告同日到警署，在警誡下寫下：「我要自首，因我是殺吳桂芳。」被告及後在錄影會面中表示他早於事發前兩日對死者動殺機，並於當日買兇刀及新衣。

Yes, I'm now in Vancouver. Last night I watched Shawshank Redemption with my old bean. The movie is pretty fun to watch, entertaining from start to finish. It's got a few famous lines that people repeat, such as "hope is a good thing, may be the best of things, and a good thing never dies," and "hope is a dangerous thing."

I don't feel that hope is a good thing, but neither do I think it dangerous. I just feel that hope is crap, meaningless. I don't think it is a big loss at all if I just die tonight. It might be pretty cool to eventually graduate from the stupid program or get to play Final Fantasy XIX or whatever, but to endure all the hardships and boredom most hours of most days of my life just to enjoy for that little bit is so not worthwhile. It is kinda like eating a crab: all that hard work just to eat that little meat is a good waste of time and effort.

Perhaps I should find a job that is ridiculously life-threatening but not physically demanding (is there even such a job?), since I get the strong feeling that I might just meet the same end as young Werther did, though for vastly different reasons.

Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope

由於最近壓力大, 所以完全冇晒 mood 寫論文, 終日以打機打發時間為樂, 連本來唔想玩o既 game 都玩埋. 尋晚剛剛玩完 Star Ocean 4. 呢隻 RPG 我總有玩到爆機, 都唔算係太差, 不過其實我去到最後個迷宮都有諗過放棄, 算係處於合格邊緣. 呢隻 game 好奇怪, 佢其實都有不少優點, 但係造呢隻 game 嗰班人, 又同時製造出相應o既缺點去消滅返呢 d 優點, 真係非常 on9.

首先, 一開隻 game, 第一樣就會留意到畫面好靚, 雖然有好多不夠細緻o既地方, 同 MGS4 之類冇得比, 但係畫面都算好 sharp. 最靚係 d 環境, 花草樹木, 沙漠, 海邊, 非常巨型o既建築物, 全部都好靚. 問題係佢地將 d 環境造得太大, 而全個 game 你都只可以行, 冇任何交通工具可以用, 所以由一個城鎮行去另一個城鎮, 往往要用成半個鐘以上, 煩到死, 令人唔想玩任何 side quests. 好多時走入一個迷宮, 打完隻大佬之後, 你仲要用腳行返轉頭, 而個環境地圖又大到無倫, 簡直就係令人覺得係浪費時間.

而班主角, 畫面係靚, 但係人物設計根本就不知所謂, 除咗個機械人之外, 所有主角都算得上係樣衰, 而不幸地, 個主角就最衰, 成個港式 MK look, 而偏偏又對住佢最多, 真係冇可能投入角色. 其實當中 Faize 同 Lymle 個關係都幾好睇, 但係係大佬, 當你將 Lymle 設計成一個 6 歲孩童, 我點可能幻想 Faize 同 Lymle 之間有曖昧? 呢 d 唔係叫愛情, 呢 d 係叫做變態. 如果班設計者, 有些少常識, 將 Lymle 設計成一個年記大 d o既女仔, 個結局咪好睇好多囉, 同埋呢 d 白痴 RPG 成日都總係有個把聲勁 cute/低B o既女童角色, 其實根本就唔 make sense, 一個 toddler 救返個宇宙?

而故事, 呢隻 RPG 有好多故事, 而我一般都係好鍾意故事性強o既RPG. 但係呢隻 RPG 真係特別, 佢係多故事得嚟多到令人厭煩o既程度. 原因有幾個. 首先, d 主角樣衰就係一個問題, 要睇班冇表情o既公仔頭口郁郁成半粒鐘, 真係好悶. 其次, d 英文配音真係不知所謂, 難聽到令人要發脾氣o既地步, 而最嚴重o既係班 cute 樣o既女角, 全部都係把聲勁尖, cute 到令人作嘔. 第三, d 對白寫得差, 同一樣嘢講一幾廿次, 重複又重複. 例如, 故事中段講到個主角意志低沈, 而呢段歷時成幾個鐘都係咁, 個主角成日死老豆咁款, 不斷講佢做錯乜做錯乜, 講成十幾廿次, 到佢想重新做人嗰時, 我已經心諗: 不如你死 X 咗佢好過啦. 至於角色, 呢隻 game 所有角色都有不少 development, 但係當個角色本身係令人生厭的話, 不論幾多 development 都係多餘.

而玩法, 今集 item creation 易用好多. 但係佢地搞到只有喺你隻太空船上先可以用 item creation. 之前已經提及過, 呢隻 game d 地圖係超大, 所以當你去到一個城鎮, 買到一 d 原料, 你就要行成至少半個鐘返去隻船上先可以用 item creation, 而當你行到返去, 先發覺原來喺個城度買少咗一樣嘢, 你真係會想打爆個電視. 所以, 雖然 item creation 個 system 係容易咗好多, 但係我情願用返 Star Ocean 2 嗰個成日要 reload 但係任何地方都可以用o既 item creation.

總結: 太多致命缺點, 除消晒隻 game 本身有o既優點, 非常可惜. 唯一最好係個 battle system, 但係如果我想玩打交, 我就直接玩 Devil May Cry 或忍者外傳, 唔係玩 Star Ocean.

The Final Destination

上個星期五去睇黃毓民"尋找不該的故事"個 show, 星期六就出去睇 The Final Destination. 我同妹仔一向都好鍾意呢個系列, 我覺得第一同第三集都好睇, 第二集都唔錯, 但係個 feel 太過血腥, 反而缺少咗呢個系列本身就有o既驚嚇氣氛.

到第四集, 導演就係第二集嗰個, 所以我未睇就有少少戒心. 呢一集故事都係差唔多, 不過有 3D 畫面, 所以有另有其吸引處. 論畫面, 3D 運用得好好, 不斷有嘢飛向觀眾, 睇得好過癮. 但係, 可能由於導演關係, 呢集恐怖氣氛並不濃烈, 主要係因為好多死人場面都太過血腥, 成日飛晒 d 內臟出嚟, 有令人失笑o既程度, 反而減低咗影片故事肅殺氣氛. 所以感覺上其實似動作片仲多過似恐怖片. 而另一個問題係, Final Destination 系列最吸引人就係 d 人都死得好 creative, 但係呢集就麻麻地, 冇乜心思.

總結: 因為有 3D, 娛樂性十足, 但係作為 Final Destination fan, 就覺得有多少失望. 搵第二集個導演嚟拍係一個錯誤o既決定, 搵返第一/三集個 James Wong 咪好囉.

新蜀山劍俠

應妹仔要求, 好大機會會喺九月尾搬返溫哥華住, 前路茫茫, 好大壓力, 所以呢排日日做嘢嗰時都要開齣電影睇, 最近就喺 youtube 度見到有得睇徐克齣舊戲"新蜀山劍俠", 聽就聽得多, 不過未睇過.

故事講元彪做o既卒仔, 碰上鄭少秋做o既神奇劍俠, 跟住佢去斬妖, 又碰上其他怪事怪人, 後來故事急轉直下, 個卒仔身邊好打o既奇俠全部被血魔 KO 晒, 所以個卒仔就同兩個武功非常麻麻o既孟海同李賽鳳去搵紫青雙劍去拮血魔. 其實個故事麻麻, 雖然背後係有 d 意思想講, 不時透過元彪說教, 不過到底都係冇乜特別, 一般劍俠大戰魔教大怪獸, 有 d 打鬥鏡頭亦交待得唔夠清楚, 畫面一轉, 會唔知做乜有個人會突然被打到飛開, 又唔係好明鄭少秋到底係點樣中咗血魔陰招. 畫面特技當年睇, 班觀眾應該會覺得好勁, 但係而家睇就當然係非常麻麻啦, 最後大戰尤其唔掂, 反而係開頭鄭少秋飛一大堆劍出去嗰下好型. 以前細個好鍾意睇"人間道", 最鍾意係燕赤霞招飛劍, 而家先知原來個 idea 係抄徐克齣"蜀山".

成齣戲最令我震撼係忽然覺得, 以前港片 d 女角真係好靚. 故事中段講鄭少秋同卒仔去到一個冰宮, 個堡主林青霞一出嗰時, 就覺得佢好靚, 因為我睇佢做戲都係睇比較近期如"東方不敗"之類, 佢已經比較老同肥咗, 但係喺"蜀山"入面又後生又瘦. 但係我覺得最好睇其實係李賽鳳, 嘩, 真係極靚囉, 而家 d o靚模呀, angelababy 之類超碼差佢十幾廿皮, 每個動作都 cute 到無倫, 令齣戲可觀度大增. 可惜李賽鳳後來多數都係拍打交戲, 齣齣都差不多, 如果佢做文戲或笑片, 我都會好有興趣睇.

終於玩到一個我覺得好玩, 又玩到爆機o既 wii game. 而夠吊詭o既係, 呢隻 game 冇北美版本, 只有日本版同歐洲版, wii 真係好痴線, 年中出咁多爛 game, 但係偏偏呢隻喺 wii 入面算中上o既就唔出, 同 Fatal Frame 4 一樣, 唔知佢想點. 可能佢地覺得唔夠低B o既 game 喺北美會賣得唔好, 辣塊媽媽, wii 真不是人玩的.

呢隻 game 好難講係咩類型, 因為乜都有 d, 有 platform, 有射擊, 又有開車, 其實無論咩類型都唔算特別好玩, 亦由頭到尾都好易玩. 但係角色同故事我都幾鍾意, 好有荷里活電影 feel, 又有恐怖分子, 又有天災人禍, 又有個女仔要救, 雖然好多嘢係誇張到痺, 但係一隻 game o既故事, 真係冇乜所謂, 過癮就夠, 所以令我有足夠動力玩到最後爆機. 其實個結尾好明顯係指向有第二集, 可惜第一集連喺北美都出唔到, 睇怕唔會有第二集.

玩到尾o既 RPG （8）: Suikoden Tierkreis

一向都好鍾意水滸傳系列, 因為一向都係故事性強, 同埋一手一腳由冇人冇物玩到成為一支義軍, 好有滿足感. 呢隻喺 NDS 上面o既水滸傳, 都有少少呢種 feel, 都係講社會不公, 令到一班人要反一個權力. 但係有幾點我覺得不滿:

首先, 喺玩法上, 水滸傳系列一向都有種大局觀, 會 feel 到真係成千上萬人為你上戰場打仗, 但係呢隻新 game 冇晒打大仗o既玩法, 次次都只係好似一般 RPG 咁隻揪隻, 次次出戰都只係得幾條友. 好冇癮.

其次, 雖然個故事算好成熟, 但係唔知點解凡係喺 NDS 上面出o既 RPG, d 主角就總係細路樣. 今集個主角就只得十三歲, 而故事做到成班英雄好漢無厘頭會以呢個細路為首領, 真係非常難以令人入信, 好難玩得投入, 假到爆.

最後, 故事推進比較單調. 水滸傳系列 d 故事一向都好多 twists, 但係今次就較少, 冇乜邊一 part 特別深印象.

總結, 雖然我係有玩到尾, 但係呢隻唔算係好o既 RPG, 最令人不滿o既係 NDS d game 成日無厘頭將 d 角色低齡, 低B化.

inFAMOUS

早兩個禮拜爆咗 PS3 上o既一隻新 game, 叫 inFAMOUS. 我屋企有好多 game, 多數都係冇玩到尾, 而呢隻會玩到爆機, 就證明其實我都幾鍾意玩. 畫面, 音樂, 玩法, 同故事我都覺得好好, 玩到尾嗰時, 覺得非常期待下一集, 想知道故事發展落去會點.

玩法有 d 似 GTA, 你可以去邊都得, 做乜都得, 你有超能力, 可以控制電. 玩法我覺得同 Prototype 好相似, 不過畫面靚好多, 故事同角色亦有趣好多. 唯一唔好係 d mission 唔夠多元, 好多重複. 喺我心目中, 喺 PS3 上面o既最愛依然係 Uncharted 同 MGS4, 但係呢隻亦唔錯, 絕對玩得過.

mihimaru GT 喺繼上次 Switch 後, 一個月內又出咗隻新 single, 不過今次隻歌我覺得好聽好多. とろけちゃうダンディ係 party 歌類, 雖然唔係佢地最好聽作品之一, 但係我都鍾意聽. 個 MV 亦拍得幾抵死, 有返佢地比較早期嗰種玩嘢 feel.

mihimaru d 歌係多多益善, 越多越好. 期待佢地下一隻碟.

The Southern Baptist Convention has broken its 127-year-old ties with a Fort Worth Baptist church because the SBC views its stand on homosexuality as too lenient, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Baptist Press report.

The action against the 2,000-member Broadway Baptist Church came with no discussion at the annual SBC meeting in Louisville.

Stephen Wilson, a member of the executive committee, told The Baptist Press that although Broadway Baptist does not officially endorse homosexuality "they were allowing members and also people in leadership that were homosexual."

"The church was in effect saying that it was OK to have members who are open homosexuals," Wilson said.

This is utterly ridiculous. Why don't they sever ties with all churches while they're at it? Because I'm pretty sure they all "were allowing members and also people in leadership that were" sinners. By their logic, all churches were "in effect saying that it was OK to have members who are open" sinners.

But of course they won't do that. They'll single out homosexuals as an outstanding issue. I take this as a sign of discrimination, not treating all sins (in the bible) equally.

幾個月前, 同教會唯二o既兩個朋友 Jason 同 Henry 去睇咗齣 Nicolas Case o既戲, 叫 Knowing. 早幾個星期貪得意, 寫咗個 review 俾份學術刊物, 難得有學刊會登影評, 所以就試下, 同埋又可以寫論文之外寫下其他嘢, 冇咁單調.

團體籲為六四禱告．大會表遺憾（6月1日消息）

全城更新連續第五年主辦的「全球禱告日」，已於二○○九年五月卅一日（聖靈降臨節主日）下午假香港大球場舉行，據大球場統計，有近兩萬人參加。除了「全球禱告日」發起人及職場領袖包華（Graham Power），各個不同界別的代表、現任及前任政府官員如黃仁龍司長、林瑞麟局長、李少光局長、馬時亨等亦在會上帶領會眾禱告。聚會期間有多名信徒在南區看台當眼位置展示出「改革教會偽善擦鞋文化‧重回基督精神」及「為六四死難者天安門母親禱告‧為2012雙普選祝福」的橫額，並高聲呼叫「平反六四」的口號，後經大會勸諭後離去；大會事後發表聲明（詳見附錄一），指示威者的行為「令在場人士感到不安，大會對在一個宗教活動滲入一些政治的抗議，深表遺憾。」而示威人士亦發表題為「同心爭取六四平反．禱告祈求公義伸張」的新聞稿（詳見附錄二）。

最近我論文寫緊 Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice o既部分, 但係詩歌類o既嘢, 一向都唔係強項, 所以寫得超慢, 進展龜速, 所以最近都花少少時間睇下小說, 因為反正唔係都係浪費時間, 不見得做到幾多嘢出嚟.

最新睇完o既係呢本<五隻小豬>. 故事講有個女仔最近先發現原來自己死咗o既阿媽喺好多年前被人入咗條殺夫罪, 所以佢就叫 Poirot 幫佢查, 到底係唔係事實. 而整本書, 就講 Poirot 去睇返 d 過咗好多年前o既口供. 如果唔係個女仔阿媽殺o既, 咁就一係佢老豆自殺, 又或者係其他當時五個人其中一個落手做o既. 我覺得呢本都 OK, 不過唔係我最鍾意o既. 而且到最後, 其實都唔算係有決定性o既證據, 只係按推理應該係如此而已. 不過當然, Christie 寫得聰明, 平平凡凡被佢扭一扭就變到好 Q 複雜, 不唔小心, 就會被佢誤導, 呢方面就一向都咁好玩.

郭靜 - 在樹上唱歌

郭靜隻隻碟都好聽, 佢把聲非常好聽, 歌曲質素亦好, 呢隻新碟<在樹上唱歌>亦不例外, 雖然個碟名有 d 無厘頭. 佢剪咗個新頭髮同以前好唔同, 但係好好睇. 我最鍾意佢o既一點係雖然佢個樣好得意, 之前仲剪個水母頭, 但係佢講嘢一 d 都唔扮可愛, 說話有文路, 唔會扮低 b.

呢隻碟入面, 我最鍾意 Goodbye, 喜歡程度幾可匹敵解偉苓隻<放逐愛情>. 另外<心牆>同埋<看見>亦好好聽, 不過主題曲<在樹上唱歌>我就覺得只屬一般.

喺 PS2 上面, 其中兩隻我最鍾意o既 game 係 ICO 同埋 Shadow of the Colossus, 尤其係前者, 我覺得好過同類型o既 Prince of Persia. 成隻 game 就好似一件藝術品咁, 真係好正.

而出呢兩隻 game o既公司, 而家正喺度為 PS3 研發緊一隻新 game, 最近出咗個 trailer, 睇嚟會回歸 ICO o既風格, 不過亦好似 Colossus 咁, 有隻動物幫手. 非常期待, 一定係我鍾意玩o既類型.

放逐愛情 + 關於我們

痞子英雄隻 OST 已經出咗, 入面好幾隻歌我都覺得好聽, 當中最鍾意係"放逐愛情"同"關於我們", 特別係前者. 雖然相比之下冇戰神o既"零"同"說愛我"咁經典, 但係我都覺得好正. 台灣 d 電視劇好多時都有 d 正歌聽, 真係犀利.

360 回歸

前幾日先寄出部機, 今日已經收到部翻新o既 360, 非常快手, 過程除要我自己出去寄嘢之外, 所有嘢都唔使出錢. 不過可惜我個 warranty 已經快要完, 所以下次壞機, 就真係要自己維修, 又或者要買過部新.

Anyway, 一收到部機, 當然就係攞去改返部機, 而因為我之前都喺嗰度改機, 所以今次只要俾 $40, 只係一隻 game o既價錢, 當然係好抵改. 個機佬話, 我呢部機有個 heat sink , 個 driver 亦係最新嗰種, 散熱比較好, 應該冇咁易壞. 不過睇下點啦, 對 360 一早已經冇晒信心. 不過今次喺個 warranty 過期前一個月壞機, 真係非常好運, 時間剛好.

最近喺 NDS 度玩呢個 game. 呢隻 game 好合我口味, 係解謎嗰類型, 有故事, 有角色, 永遠唔會死. 呢個 game 喺好多年之前已經喺電腦上面出過, 而家已經出到成個系列, 不過就一直都冇接觸過. 個故事主要講有宗命案發生, 個主角就一直追查落去, 點知發現 d 殺人案同中世紀一 d 傳說有關, 好有尋寶 feel. 基本上就好似睇小說咁.

呢隻 game 我大力推薦, 值得一玩. 希望將來會喺 NDS 或 wii 度出埋系列入面o既其他 game.

四年內第二次三紅, MS 分明就係賣次貨俾人, 你話唔改佢機係咪對自己唔住? 尋晚同 Henry 打打下機就開唔返部機, 一直三紅. 而家我要攞部機去俾幫我改機嗰個人 un-改返部機, 之後就會寄去 MS 維修部, 睇下佢會唔會免費幫我整囉, 如果要收費, 就唔鬼整, 遲下有我想玩o既新 game 出嗰時去買過部新o既.

睇在 Camilla Belle 份上, 頭先睇咗佢最近齣新戲, 叫做 Push, 聽講係改編自漫畫, 不過之前未聽過. 個故事講有 d 人有超能力, 但係俾另外一班同樣有超能力o既人追殺, 其實同之前嗰齣 Jumper 有少少相似, 不過呢齣有 Camilla Belle...

有靚女睇, 特技亦算 OK, 全片都係香港景亦幾有趣, 不過個故事就真係麻麻, 開頭都仲算可以, 但係去到中後段實在搞到太複雜, 扭來扭去, 睇到幾近令人厭煩. 不過睇在 Camilla Belle 份上, 係可以原諒的.

上個星期係我半年一度o既 committee meeting, 我要會見我o既三個 advisers, 睇下我寫論文進度如何, 所以過去幾個星期我都特別勤力, 真係 keep 得住"一日寫一頁"o既計劃. 而家我有超過六十頁, 其中有四十頁係講 3 Baruch, 交咗俾佢地睇. 本來我都已經有晒心理準備, 諗住實俾 Schuller 同 Reed 話係垃圾, 點知回應出乎意料之外咁正面. Schuller 仲話 "very good", 佢係我所認識最嚴o既人, 喺 Mac 已經四年, 從未聽佢讚過我 (亦冇聽佢讚過其他學生), 今次係第一次, 所以真係好大鼓舞. 真係要多謝 3 Baruch. 其實而家睇返, 我都覺得寫得唔錯, 因為喺學界入面 3 Baruch 唔算好受歡迎, 所以有唔少空間俾我講我自己o既想法, 係其他人之前未講過, 所以覺得實在係幾好玩.

而家已經過咗關, 今個暑假亦冇 conference 要去, 所以基本上成個暑假唯一要做o既嘢就係寫論文, 如果可以一日寫一頁, 呢個假期其實可以寫成百頁, 算係好好. 希望可以 keep 住啦. 我仲希望可以寫個影評 (Knowing) 俾 Journal of Religion and Film, 好似幾好玩, 又可以寫落 CV, 一石二鳥; 寫成 OCP 個 4 Ezra 嘢; 同埋過幾日要交個 syllabus, 因為 Mac 有一科叫做 The Bible and Film 會請教師, 雖然機會極低, 但係試下冇壞. 同埋加多句, 非常不幸地, 下年我又攞唔到 OGS, 非常失敗, 下年又唔知仲有冇 department scholarship, 所以都有嘢應該要擔心, 但係而家我學緊唔好諗埋 d 諗都冇幫助o既嘢, 現階段, 對我自己最有益o既就係寫論文, 仲要寫得好, 呢樣係最重要, 其他嘢就煮到埋嚟先食囉.

最近幾日有時間, 睇咗齣動畫叫 Tales of Abyss, 26 集, 算幾短. 本來我一向都唔係幾鍾意 Tales 系列, 但係呢個故事算OK, 雖然好多嘢都搞到太複雜, 但係勝在幾個角色都有一定深度, 呢方面唔錯. 係一齣我會推薦o既動畫.

The Uninvited

就快出 OGS 結果, 反正都冇心機做嘢, 所以頭先就求其開齣嘢睇. 呢齣戲, 本來開之前, 睇個 poster 似係日式鬼片之類, 不過其實似 thriller 多 d. 故事講個女仔屋企大火燒死咗佢媽咪, 而佢就嚇到失憶, 唔知當晚發生乜事. 佢喺精神病院出嚟就返到屋企, 佢老豆已經娶咗之前屋企個後生看護, 後來仲同佢個姊妹發現個看護古古怪怪... 故事最後都有個 twist, 唔算離譜, 唔係完美, 不過仲算 OK 合理. 不過呢類型o既 twist 已經睇過好多次, 冇驚喜. 故事中幾個角色亦唔覺特別吸引, 女主角又唔靚, 好似細路仔咁. 而我覺得最失敗o既, 就係睇完全片都冇被嚇到過一次, 驚嚇 feel 非常薄弱.

結論: 故事性 OK, 不過冇任何突出之處, 唔係差又唔係好正.

有時好激氣o既時候, 你話點可以唔講句"仆街"?

本來 wii 就已經有乜 game 好玩, 但係我就一向都好期待 Fatal Frame 4. 本來 Fatal Frame 出喺 wii 唔出喺 PS3/Xbox360, 我都已經好不滿, 不過有得玩都算啦. 點知而家日本版出咗成年幾之後, 竟然話唔會出歐/美版, 你話係咪仆街?

據 Tecmo 講, 只有任天堂先有權出, 而任天堂就完全冇計劃要出... 有 Fatal Frame 咁出色o既系列竟然唔出, d 人係咪壞腦呀? 最衰就係 d 對打機其實冇興趣o既人無厘頭又買部 wii 返屋企擺, 搞到 wii 呢部廢機竟然咁好賣, 搞到咁多好 game 要衰喺呢部機能低下o既衰嘢手上, 真係冇天理.

上次睇新海誠嗰齣"雲之彼端"真係令人非常失望, 睇到 d 精緻畫功就令人怒火中燒, 唔明點解畫到咁靚, 但係個故事如此不濟. 頭先喺不抱任何期待o既心情之下, 睇咗佢比較新o既另一齣動畫電影, "秒速5厘米", 不過同個半鐘o既"雲之彼端"唔同, 呢齣只有60分鐘長, 分開三個小故事 (不過都係嗰 d 角色). 竟然覺得好好睇! 證明呢個導演拍一個長故事唔掂, 但係短故事就OK.

三個故事係"櫻花抄", "太空人", 同埋"秒速5厘米". 其實故事方面, 呢個導演真係較弱, 因為幾乎係冇故事咁滯, 但係因為三個段落都咁短, 所以觀眾唔會覺得有何不妥. 配合佢嗰 d 極靚極細膩o既畫功, 同埋幾好聽o既音樂, 好似睇緊一個有少少故事, 又有對白o既劇場版 MV 咁, 剛好可以突出導演o既長處, 亦令佢講故事唔叻o既短處變得冇咁明顯.

我覺得第一段, "櫻花抄", 睇得最有 feel. 講一男一女o既舊同學, 因為搬屋分開好遠, 冇得見面. 但係仲 keep 住寫信, 並打算畢業前搭火車見一面, 不過約會當日落大雪, 個男仔遲到成四粒鐘... 故事就係得咁多, 但係漂亮雪景同埋吸引o既背景音樂, 任何人都會睇到好有 feel. 主角喺火車上o既冰冷孤獨感, 透過畫面, 觀眾可以接收得到.

第三段, "秒速5厘米", 其實係完全冇故事咁滯, 只係草草交代男女主角都已經大個咗, 男o既依然好懷念女主角, 不過工作同生活已經令佢冇力氣胡思亂想; 女o既就已經要嫁人, 男主角只係佢o既兒時回憶. 最後一幕喺電車前面, 就交代咗佢地咁o既關係. 呢段第一次睇時, 覺得導演好Q懶, 單係播歌就用咗一半時間, 但係回味一下, 又覺得幾有 feel, "秒速5厘米"o既 imagery 亦用得好. 5cm/sec 係講櫻花瓣落下o既速度, 不過人同人之間, 亦好似花瓣一樣, 不由自主地, 以一個不可變更o既速度, 慢慢散開, 同其他來自同一顆樹o既花瓣散落到唔同o既地方去. 係一個有心思o既比喻.

總論: 雖然故事有少少過份地簡單, 第二段其實甚至同第一/三段唔係咁夾, 但係全部都夠短, 要表達o既信息透過畫面成功交代到, 睇落有 feel. 我個人係覺得好鍾意. 不過導演唔係宮崎駿第二, 因為佢仲未識講一個90分鐘長度o既完整故事. 希望佢將來花多 d 花思喺故事推進上面, 配合佢畫面觸覺上o既天才.

我愛上 mihimaru 係始於睇佢地上次隻演唱會 DVD, 等咁耐, 尋晚終於睇到佢地最新o既演唱會 DVD. 比起上次, 今次場地喺武道館, 地方大好多, 但係感覺上亦比上次離觀眾遠 d, 少咗 d party feel. 服裝亦勁過上次, 因為上次基本上係冇換過衫 (只有除, 冇換), 今次都有換下, 而且幾好睇, 尤其係 hiroko, 件件都靚.

佢地舊年我覺得最好聽嗰幾隻歌亦全部有唱, Love Sick, Birthday Song, Alive, 幸せになろう都好正. 特別要提到かけがえのない詩呢隻"叮噹"歌, 因為我之前都只係覺得一般, 但係今次演出佢地改咗少少嘢, 變成 acoustic version, 加埋 miyake 彈結他, 隻歌變到好好聽, 希望佢地將來出碟會整返個新版本. 不過亦有我覺得可惜o既地方. 首先, 分別'有四組嘉賓出場, 太過多咗 d, 有少少打斷個節奏同連貫性. 另外, 有好幾首我覺得係佢地最出色o既舊歌冇唱到, 包括 Love is..., Squall, いつまでも響くこのMelody .

不過, 結括嚟講, 雖然有幾首我唔係咁鍾意聽o既歌, 但係都好鍾意呢個演唱會, 有靚女睇, 有好歌聽, 一睇到佢地 d 招牌 Afro 假髮就覺得開心.

雲之彼端, 約定的地方

今日都做咗唔少嘢, 所以花少少時間睇咗齣一路都想睇o既動畫電影, 新海誠o既"雲之彼端, 約定的地方". 有人話呢個人係宮崎駿第二, 睇完呢齣, 我覺得佢係有排都未夠班, 先學好講個動聽合理o既故事先啦唔該. 好多人都話呢齣嘢好睇, 因為畫功靚, 有型, 再加上一個冇人睇得明o既故事, 令人覺得呢齣嘢好 deep.

先講長處, 呢齣動畫係畫得靚, 除咗 d 人畫得一般之外, 所有其他嘢都畫得非常細緻, 算得上美輪美奐. 音樂亦算不俗, 不過就當然遠遠不及久石讓幫宮崎駿寫嗰 d, 但係配合上靚畫面, 都算 OK 啦.

雖然喺技術層面上, 呢齣動畫算得上出色, 但係最差o既係故事, 差得連佢有o既幾大長處都唔能夠抵消. 首先, 我唔係批評佢故事中o既 concept, 佢話呢個世界會發夢, 而個女主角就喺夢中接收晒呢個世界o既夢境, 令到其他平衡世界唔會食 Q 咗呢個世界... 係好混亂o既 concept, 但係都算, 佢要咁設計, 我都可以接受. 問題係, 世界觀可以唔合理, 但係存在於呢個世界入面o既角色o既反應同行為唔可以不合理囉.

我隨便都可以數幾樣. 例一, 故事講到個昏迷咗不停發夢o既女主角咁重要, 政府 d 人講到如果佢一旦醒返, 就會世界末日, 但係兩個男主角非常輕易, 完全冇人理就可以將個女仔帶離政府重要基地, 頂, 係咪兒戲成咁呀? 例二, 其中一個男主角因為佢發o既一個夢, 而認為只要佢帶個昏迷咗o既女主角去個高塔度, 佢就會醒返, 而另一個比較理性o既男仔就話佢痴孖筋, 唔可能因為佢發夢就幫佢偷走個女仔, 兩個仲打起上嚟, 但係一分鐘後, 反對嗰個男仔突然又話都覺得個夢係真, 帶個女仔去個塔度佢就會醒返... what??!! 例三, 到結尾, 個男主角帶條女飛到去個塔度, 個女仔醒返, 咁觀眾就會諗, 咁即係世界末日啦, 點知佢喺飛機度, 飛一枝導彈出去炸爆個塔, 咁就已經解決晒問題, 極救咗地球... 喂, 乜容易成咁, 咁之前就咪話乜乜救條女定救地球啦, 根本就冇 dilemma. 同埋講到個塔會食晒成個地球, 世界末日咁, 但係原來用一枝導彈就可以搞掂, 一路千方百計 keep 住個女仔昏迷發夢根本就係多餘, 求其叫阿邊個去飛枝導彈就得啦, 使乜要個中學生去做? 呢個故事入面 d 角色o既所作所為真係不合理到極點.

總結: 背景同死物畫功一流, 音樂不俗, 但係故事不知所謂, 角色言行不合情理, 令人懷疑之前拍慣短篇o既導演根本就唔識講一個 90 分鐘o既故事, 所以要 d 角色做埋 d on9 嘢, 又不時口水多過茶咁講點整飛機, 又強逼人聽埋 d 平衡世界o既理/謬論. 呢方面, 真係非常差勁, 完全掩蓋晒技術上o既可取之處.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau today announced the arrest of a 49-year-old man for creating multiple aliases to engage in a campaign of impersonation and harassment relating to the Dead Sea Scrolls and scholars of opposing viewpoints.

The defendant, RAPHAEL HAIM GOLB, was arrested on charges of identity theft, criminal impersonation and aggravated harassment. The crimes in the Criminal Court Complaint occurred during the period of July to December of 2008.

The investigation leading to today’s arrest revealed that GOLB engaged in a systematic scheme on the Internet, using dozens of Internet aliases, in order to influence and affect debate on the Dead Sea Scrolls, and in order to harass Dead Sea Scrolls scholars who disagree with his viewpoint. GOLB used computers at New York University (NYU) in an attempt to mask his true identity when conducting this Internet scheme. He gained access to NYU computers by virtue of being a graduate of the university, and having made donations to its library fund.

The investigation, which included a court-authorized search warrant that was executed this morning at GOLB’s apartment, began in response to a complaint by Lawrence Schiffman, Ph.D., that he was impersonated over the Internet. Dr. Schiffman is a NYU professor, chairman of the Hebrew & Judaic Studies Department and a leading scholar in the field of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

In August 2008, Dr. Schiffman became subject to a campaign of impersonation and harassment through the Internet, by an anonymous individual. An investigation by the District Attorney’s Office revealed that this individual was GOLB, the son of Norman Golb, Ph.D., a Dead Sea Scrolls scholar who resides in Chicago. RAPHAEL GOLB used methods which were intended to maintain his anonymity, and opened an email account - larry.schiffman @ gmail.com - purportedly in Dr. Schiffman’s name and sent 11 emails to multiple NYU recipients, in which he pretended to be Dr. Schiffman, and purported to admit to plagiarism. Simultaneously, RAPHAEL GOLB, using other Internet aliases, sent emails to NYU personnel and administration accusing Dr. Schiffman of plagiarism, and created Internet blogs accusing Dr. Schiffman of plagiarism.

RAPHAEL GOLB, through his Internet aliases, promoted the theories of his father and criticized the theories of others. Frequently, he criticized the manner in which the Dead Sea Scrolls have been exhibited, for not giving sufficient attention to the theories of his father.

GOLB is charged with Identity Theft in the Second Degree, a class E felony, which is punishable by up to 1⅓ to 4 years in prison; Identity Theft in the Third Degree, Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree, Forgery in the Third Degree and Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree, all class A misdemeanors, which are each punishable by up to 1 year in prison. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Manhattan Criminal Court.

[Sunday School] Day 7: topic 4 part 1

Woo, I'm doing it. I had always wanted to talk about the Documentary Hypothesis in church. We'll see what happens...

Traditionally, Christians believe that it was Moses himself who wrote the Pentateuch. That was what I heard in Sunday School when I was younger. But then I saw some passages in the Pentateuch that don't seem like something that Moses would have written.

A quote that I found inspiring from a mystery novel. Instead of twisting the evidence to make it fit into our theories, why not change our view to better explain the evidence? Let's give it a try.

Before we talk about the Documentary Hypothesis, let's first take a look at a few strange passages. Take out a piece of paper, and try to answer these questions. Feel free to use your bible, let's make it open-book.

ANSWERS:

These are often used as examples of contradictions in the Pentateuch. What do you think? I encourage you to look at them more closely, and decide for yourself whether they're really contradictions, or stylistic inconsistencies. In any case, these are the data. What kind of a theory do we need to accommodate these data?

The Documentary Hypothesis is some scholars' attempt to make sense of these anomalies in the Pentateuch. Next week, I'll let you know what I think, and give an introduction to the Documentary Hypothesis. I don't presume that we must accept the DH, but it is something that we should know of.

呢本我只係一般喜歡. 個故事講有一班去以色列o既旅客, 當中有個家庭, 個後母係衰人, 專門精神虐待佢 d 仔女, 而多年下來, 佢 d 仔女已經俾佢半催眠, condition 晒, 佢無論講乜, 佢 d 仔女都只有照做, 雖然唔鍾意做但係手腳就不由自主照做咗出嚟. 後來呢個後母被殺, Poirot 就出場去搵兇手.

其實個故事都算OK有趣, 因為個後母真係好變態. 但係花太多時間講背景故事, 去到成本書o既中間先至死人, 太慢咗 d. 而 Poirot 亦出場好少, 頭半本書都冇佢, 同埋喺呢本書入面, 佢都幾乞人憎, 主要係因為死咗嗰個人實在好討厭, 而 Poirot 主要係要去搵兇手, 令讀者覺得感覺怪怪的. 同埋個殺人局都只算一般而已.

情人節禮物

雖然係遲咗 d, 不過都應該記錄一下今年收到o既情人節禮物. 今年係我好鍾意o既嘢. 老老實實, 其實之前好多年收過乜我都已經唔記得晒, 不過今年一定好記得. 我地出去 chapters 行, 買咗一堆偵探小說, 兩本 Agatha Christie 小說, 再加一本三合一o既 Christie 小說, 即是合共 5 本. 另外仲有本福爾摩斯合集, 有排可以慢慢睇. 正正正!!!

搭多單外號: 妹仔終於買咗個新電話, 佢之前用開嗰個已經用咗至少 6 年. 佢一路都唔想買新電話, 因為所有電話都逼人簽約, 而佢就好討厭用電話用到要簽約. 但係佢舊嗰個已經用到壞, 所以真係買個新o既. 妹仔佢一向都鍾意呢個電話, 因為佢覺得個 logo 好型喎. 不過呢電話喺西人舖頭如果唔簽約, 要成 $300, 不過有日我地出去一個唐人 mall 買叉燒食嗰時, 唔覺意見到有間舖頭賣 $170, 因為間嘢唔係電話公司, 當然亦無約可簽, 所以妹仔就即刻買咗. 恭喜恭喜.

[Sunday School] Day 6: topic 3 part 3

In the past weeks, we have seen some archaeological finds that might confirm certain details in the OT. To be fair, we'll now look at stuff that doesn't sit comfortably with what the OT tells us. The most notable case is the problem of Israel's settlement in Canaan? Just how did they end up in Canaan after the Exodus in Egypt? Many scholars date the Exodus to around 1250 BCE, the time of Ramses II. Did Israel invade and conquer cities in Canaan as the OT reports?

The most famous city in this episode of the biblical narrative is Jericho. According to the OT, the city's walls miraculously collapsed and the Israelites made their way into the city and slaughtered everybody.

Do we get the same picture from archaeological research? John Garstang claimed to have discovered the collapsed walls of the Joshua invasion. But Kathleen Kenyon, with a more sophisticated and advanced technique of excavation, found out that Garstang had dated the collapsed to the wrong time. They were in fact from the Early Bronze Age, not from the Late Bronze Age, which is the period to which scholars date Joshua.

Kenyon found out that Jericho was destrued by fire by the end of Middle Bronze Age and remained relatively unoccupied throughout the Late Bronze Age. That means, there was no fortified city for Joshua to conqure in Jericho...

No, I'm not spreading heresies. I tood these two books off the shelves of the church's library. They say the same thing.

To make you feel better, more recently a guy named Bryant Wood argues that Garstang was correct and Kenyon wrong. Though still a decidedly minority, there's someone (a real scholar, archaeologist) who disagrees with Kenyon. His arguments are too technical for me to fully appreciate. I personally have more faith in Kenyon than in Wood, but I'll let you decide for yourself.

Similar problem with the City of Ai.

Excavations show that there are only 2 major periods of occupation. First in the Early Bronze Age, then in the Iron Age.

There's a destruction level by the end of the Early Bronze Age, and the city remained unoccupied throughout the Middle and Late Bronze Ages! Again, according to archaeologists, there's nothing for Joshua to conqure in Ai.

The site was occupied in the Iron Age, but there are no walls. Strictly speaking, it was more a village than a city.

Scholars have tried to think of a solution to these problems. May be we should move the date of the Exodus to much earlier? But if we do that, we'll move many other things in the biblical timeline and numerous other things won't fit. I think we're actually attacking the bible if we do that.

Albright suggests that the Ai story in the OT was originally a story about Bethel, which was indeed destroyed in the Late Bronze Age. But somehow, the locus of the story shifted from Bethel to Ai. Possible, but hard to prove. Besides, this is still saying that the OT is wrong. The bottom line is that there was no fortified city in Ai, but the bible says Joshua conqured a city there.

So that's what things are. I'll leave it up to you to struggle with how to coordinate this kind of information with your views of the bible. I think now is a good time to ask ourselves some questions. Why is it that we're so keen on the historicity of the OT? Why does it have to be 100% accurate? And so what if it isn't anyway? Does Christianity collapse if there's an error in the bible?

I can't answer all those questions for you, and I think it is most benefitial for you to find your own answer. But I'll tell you this: I don't think Christianity will collapse even if there's an error in the bible. In the 1600s, christians used to say that if the Earth were a sphere, if the Earth weren't flat, it'll render the bible false and injure the holy faith. But apparently christianity didn't die after people realized that the Earth is actually in a sphere shape.

When I was younger, people used to say that if the evolution theory were true, the bible and the church will be shattered to pieces. But look at the news today, just like that, the Catholic church survives this without a problem. There's no consequence even if Charles Darwin were right.

I don't know if the evolution theory were true, I'm not a scientist, but I want to say is this: even IF it were true, so what?

頭先出街睇咗呢齣戲. 其實我都好少會出街俾錢睇戲, 不過今次破例, 主要有兩個原因. 一, Clive Owen 同 Naomi Watts 我都好鍾意, 男o既我覺得極型, 女o既我覺得勁靚. 二, 今次係教會有個朋友叫 Ed 同佢老婆 Esther 叫我一齊去.

齣戲我覺得都唔錯, 由開始就已經 keep 住幾緊張, 不斷有人死, 兩個主角一路追住線索查落去, 係相當唔錯o既 thriller. 動作場面亦比我相像中好, 有一場喺 museum 俾人追殺, 我就覺得拍得幾刺激. 不過去到臨尾開始節制變慢, 好多口水, 同埋 Naomi Watts 突然唔再參與故事, 亦好突兀, 最後一段冇靚女睇亦係一個遺憾. 總括嚟講, 其實我覺得呢齣戲相當唔錯, 可惜尾段乏力, 張力 keep 唔到尾.

至於阿 Ed, 佢都算係個老人家, 又係教會長老, 通常呢類人我都唔係好鍾意. 但係佢唔同, 我好鍾意佢, 因為佢份人冇大冇細, 又非常 open-minded, 所以我好鍾意同佢傾計. 非常期待再同佢出去玩.

呢本個殺人情況相對比較簡單. 有 8 個人, 分兩間房喺度玩橋牌, Poirot 喺其中一間, 再外加有一個人喺中間間房坐, 後來被殺. 所以呢本書, 由頭到尾只有四個 suspects, 其中有一個係兇手. 我自己覺得比較冇咁鍾意呢本, 因為我完全唔識玩橋牌, 但係 Poirot 就成日問人有關橋牌o既嘢, 睇到一頭霧水. 同埋呢個故事入面 Poirot 好少戲份, 好多時間去咗其他查案o既人度, 呢方面我係覺得有少少失望. 不過個結局好刺激, 衰唔得晒.

總結, 我覺得唔係 Poirot 系列中最出色o既之一.

呢本係 Hercule Poirot 系列o既第二本. 雖然好多人話 Christie d 小說去到佢寫作生涯中段嗰堆最好睇, 不過我睇完佢頭兩本, 我都覺得好好睇. 個殺人局估然係好睇, 估到最後一個 chapter 先知邊個係兇手, 途中我都估到好多嘢, 但係兇手就睇唔出. 同埋有趣o既係呢個故事入面個 narrator Arthur Hastings 喺呢本書度識到個女朋友. 其實 Poirot 同 Hastings 都係我鍾意o既角色, 可惜喺 Christie 後來o既小說中 Hastings 好少再有出現, 因為佢轉咗風格, 唔再需要借個 narrator 把口以第一身講故事.

總括, 又一本我覺得好好睇o既偵探小說.

教會應絕止教友去睇"崖上的波兒"

近日上映的合家歡賀年電影《崖上的波兒》(下簡稱：崖波)，實在是近期「教壞細路」的代表作：

1. 《崖波》片名意淫，當一位女士站立的時候，其腹無疑就如一幅山崖，而崖上的波兒，明顯意有所指，其心可誅。

2. 《崖波》片中，說及一個五歲的小孩愛上一條魚，片中主角宗介更大膽言明：「不管波兒是魚還是半人魚…都喜歡他」，這明確地是有意鼓吹人獸交。

3.如果《崖波》能是「第一類別」的電影，無疑是間接認同人獸交，如果認同了人獸交，就是主張有性無類，那麼就等於認同同性性交，認同了同性性交就等於鼓吹同性戀，鼓吹同性戀也就讓同性戀無止境擴張，那麼人類就會絕種。聖經上清楚記載所多瑪城滅亡的故事，如果讓《崖波》成為「第一類別」電影，誓必引致地球大爆炸。

人獸交在任何地方都是不可接受的，更是違反香港法律，《崖波》實在比「四仔」有過之而無不及，不單不應是合家歡電影，更是不應讓其流通。我們知道所有情慾的罪都是由眼目而來，故此政府應大力監管資訊的流通，建議回復文革時代的樣板戲，維護我們香港的核心價值，基督教不可踰越的道德標準。

A famous story in the OT. Hezekiah saw the invasion of Sennacherib, but he somehow fended off the powerful opponent.

The Sennacherib Prism tells a similar story. It says that Sennacherib took a lot of cities of Judah, and laid siege to Jerusalem, but it is interesting that it never says he succeeded in taking Jerusalem.

We have also found the tunnel associated with this story. Hezekiah feared that Sennacherib might cut off their water supply, so he dug a tunnel to channel water from Gihon Spring to inside the walls of Jerusalem.

In the tunnel, we found an inscription recording how the tunnel was dug. Apparently, they started digging on both ends of the tunnel and tried to meet in the middle, which sounds so ridiculously difficult, but they did it nonetheless somehow.

A seal that might have belonged to a subordinate of Jeroboam II, the Israelite king.

Possibly a seal that belonged to the last king of Israel.

Cool, a ring-seal!!

It might have belonged to the son of Hilkiah who found the "scroll of torah" (some scholars thought that this might be the Book of Deuteronomy) in the temple during the reign of Josiah.

This one was discovered from an official dig site, so it must be the real deal.

Might have belonged to the grandfather of Ezra.

This bulla might have belonged to Baruch, the secretary of Jeremiah.

A similar one, but with a portion of a fingerprint of someone.

Might have belonged to Jerehmeel the prince, who tried to arrest Jeremiah and Baruch.

Might have belonged to a contemporary of Jeremiah.

Now, we have seen a lot of archaeological finds that might have confirmed a number of details that are told in the OT. We have not "proved" the OT this way, because there are more things that can't be proved than those that can be proved. But I think, these things are cool to look at. At least much cooler than those fake stuff (e.g., Jesus' blood, the ark of Noah).

But to be fair, next time, we'll look at things that contradict the OT. Gird your loins!!!

The Last House on the Left (1972)

聽講呢齣戲好激, 所以都要見識下. 故事講有個女仔同佢個 friend 俾班衰人姦殺咗, 而呢班友仔又唔識死走咗去個女仔屋企投宿, 俾佢家人報復返... 其實幾乎就係將 Ingmar Bergman 齣經典黑白片 The Virgin Spring 重拍一次, 不過就將姦殺過程變成重點, 有咁核突拍得咁核突, 亦將個節奏加快, 將原作嗰種藝術 feel 同埋個父親內心想報復嗰種衝突減去 (原作個老豆仲殺咗個細路; Last House 就細路變青年, 仲係自殺而死). 比起原作當然係低級好多, 但係我覺得有一方面係成功, 就係班仆街奸人, 真係賤到無倫, 所以到結尾報復情節, 真係大快人心.

我覺得呢齣都唔差, 因為奸人太賤, 所以觀眾其實一定會睇得投入, 想睇佢地點仆街, 睇到尾都會好專注.

Youtube 真係偉大, 可以睇到好多聽講過, 但係從未睇過o既好多驚嚇片, 成齣有晒, 連 BT 都唔使. 早幾晚就睇咗呢齣, 個名好似好型o既舊片. 故事講有個護士妹受僱去間瘋人院做嘢, 不過佢去到嗰時, 個院長已經被人殺咗. 成齣戲就係講呢間瘋人院入面o既病人越變越癲, 同埋呢個護士妹死唔死得去.

其實呢齣戲個節制都幾慢, 個 twist 亦太易估中, 幾位角色亦冇乜突出之處, 雖然呢齣戲有 d 朵, 但係唔算有幾驚嚇. 血腥場面唔算差, 結局大暴動都算幾型, 不過要等成個半鐘先去到嗰度, 真係有 d 悶.

We'll now talk about archaeology and the Old Testament. If you google "archaeology" and "bible", you'll probably run into hits that involve a man named Ron Wyatt. This person claimed to have "discovered" quite a few things, just to name a few, Ark of Noah, Ark of the Covenant, Mt. Sinai, chariot wheels in Red Sea, and Jesus' blood.

I know, looking at this ridiculous list, you would think: "what idiots would believe in a scam like this?"

Christians would, I tell you. Just a simple random google exercise brought me to this person's blog, which talks about Ron Wyatt's "discovery" of wheels at the bottom of the Red Sea with excitement. And not just him, look at how people make comments to praise Wyatt's discovery and how it "proved" that the Bible is true!

And you might think: "hey, you got to be fair; it was just a random Christian's blog." But the problem is, even a well-respected Chinese Christian newspaper used Ron Wyatt as a credible source, to prove the reliability of the Bible!!! Lame, lame, lame.

And of course, you must have also heard of this Chinese movie, made by a well-respected Christian organization. They claimed that they had found the Ark of Noah, despite the fact that they hadn't done any studying at all while they released the movie. And half a decade has passed, they still haven't made much progress. Not even one shred of direct evidence that says they had found Noah's Ark. Shame, shame, shame.

What I found soooo amazing about these things that we have seen is that: why the heck do Christians so love to talk about these fake stuff while we actually have the genuine archaeological finds to look at?

We'll look at finds that will enrich our understanding of the OT, then look at ones that contradict the OT, and end with a discussion.

See the info yourself. Merneptah is a pharoah of Egypt; this thing is about the cool stuff that he had accomplished.

The discoverer on the left. The mummy of the original owner of the stele on the right. He doesn't look too happy now, does he?

As far as I know, this is the earliest reference to "Israel". Dates to around 1200 BCE.

This 9th/8th century inscriptions is famous for its reference to "the house of David." But there's some problem. There's no word divider between the words "house" and "David", so some scholars question whether this is saying "the house of David" at all, because it would be just a place name, such as "Bethdod", hence no word divider because it's just a one-word place name.

Another early inscription. I want to point this out because this thing says "the house of Yahweh", and there apparently is no word divider between the words "house" and "Yahweh"! So I think it is still at least possible that the Tel Dan Inscription does say "the house of David".

Cool. This thing talks about the cool stuff that Shalmaneser III had done.

And one of those "cool" stuff is that he received tributes from the Israelites king Jehu. Jehu, what a loser.

Similar stuff, but this one is about a Moabite king.

2 things to note. First, it tells of how Moab was overpowered by Israel for a long time, but then shook off the oppression; same story told in 2 Kings. Second, it talks about how Mesha would slaughter everyone/thing when he conquered a city as an offering to his god. A parallel custom to what we read in the "cruel" parts of the Old Testament that promote a "ban".

Biblical Views: Breaking the Trend of Biblical “Breaking News”

By Craig A. Evans

Scholars and the general public alike have grown accustomed, perhaps even hardened, to sensational announcements every year that have something to do with the Bible, Jesus or Christian origins. From The Da Vinci Code to the supposed tomb of Jesus and his family, and the seemingly annual reports about finding Noah’s ark or the Ark of the Covenant, much of the news in our field is incredible—literally. And, of course, several artifacts (such as the Jehoash inscription and the James Ossuary inscription) were widely publicized before being declared forgeries—although the evidence in support of forgery is far from conclusive (see Strata).

In light of all of this noise, I would not be surprised in the least if the public interest in Biblical scholarship and archaeology begins to wane. Future discoveries, even important ones, may well be met with cynical responses such as “We have heard this before.” How is the average person supposed to know when a truly remarkable discovery has been made?

This brings me to the stone inscribed with “Gabriel’s Revelation,” recently published in BAR.a This remarkable find required no hype. Yet the impulse to sensationalize the find, complete with extravagant claims, is already well underway. This is unfortunate.

Ada Yardeni, a respected epigrapher, dates the stone and its two columns of inked Hebrew script to the late first century B.C. or early first century A.D.

Yardeni’s interpretation is cautious. She describes the text as a vision, a string of prophecies, evidently by someone named Gabriel, addressed to someone in the second person. Several passages of Scripture are alluded to or quoted in part. The focus of the vision seems to be Davidic and may be messianic.

Contrasting Yardeni’s cautious interpretation is Israel Knohl’s daring thesis that the Gabriel vision foretells the appearance of a suffering Messiah son of Joseph, a concept that served as a sort of template for Jesus. After all, Jesus was a “son of Joseph” (Luke 4:22; John 6:42), so surely he understood himself in this light. According to Knohl, this explains why Jesus saw himself as a messiah who would suffer and not as a conquering Messiah son of David. This seems to me a rather shaky line of reasoning.

Knohl has certainly done a great deal of research into the tradition of the suffering Messiah son of Joseph, but is this messiah even present in the Gabriel text? That is far from certain. Neither “Joseph” nor “son of Joseph” appears in the surviving text, and it makes no mention of a suffering figure.

Even if we agree with Knohl’s interpretation of line 80 (“In three days, live, I, Gabriel, command you”)b as referring to resurrection, who is being resurrected? The text says it is the “prince of princes”; there is nothing here about a Messiah son of Joseph. One should bear in mind that Knohl’s reconstructions and interpretation lend significant support to the thesis of his book The Messiah before Jesus, a thesis that has not escaped serious criticism.

No doubt this interesting debate will continue. The Gabriel text may turn out to be truly significant and of great interest to Jews and Christians alike. It could certainly contribute to our understanding of early Judaism and extra-Biblical prophetic texts around the turn of the era. But we scholars owe it to ourselves and to the public to make sure that careful study of the stone and its properties is undertaken before we start propounding theories that may go well beyond the evidence—particularly in connection to Biblical figures. Priority should be given to further analysis of the text, including the possibility of recovering words and letters no longer visible to the naked eye, locating the site from which it was taken (if possible), and study of the site itself. Perhaps after further study we will be better able to understand the origins and context of this and other fascinating artifacts—without resorting to sensational scholarship.

Suspiria

以前好細個嗰時, 老豆好鍾意帶我去睇鬼戲, 人地細個喺床上面有父母講兒童故事, 我老豆就讀鬼故我聽, 仲記得, 嗰本書叫"香港怪談", 喺屈臣氏買. 但係大個咗, 都已經唔記得睇過乜戲, 除咗一齣,印象極深, 講班人喺戲院睇鬼戲, 點知鬼戲入面 d 喪屍喺真實戲院度, 仲記得細個睇嗰時超驚, 超刺激, 因為俾 d 喪屍傷到少少, 就會變埋喪屍. 但係大個咗, 就連齣戲名都唔記得, 直到冇幾耐之前, 偶然下知道齣戲叫 Demons, 由歐洲一個出名拍恐怖片o既人 produce o既, 呢個人就叫 Dario Argento.

又聽講佢最出名o既電影叫 Suspiria, 所以就搵咗嚟睇. 其實呢齣戲個故事好弱, 不過就係以畫面同音樂取勝, 造出恐怖氣氛. 當睇o既時候, 第一件事注意到o既就係 d 顏色, 非常鮮艷, 甚至有種好似睇緊童話書嗰種夢幻感覺. 後來睇返資料, 個導演話齣戲個 idea 係來自佢女朋友o既一個惡夢. 呢方面嚟講, 佢真係好成功, 我喺睇資料之前已經覺得齣戲有種"惡夢"感, 佢係拍到出嚟. 另外幾個角色o既死法, 都好多人討論, 認為係恐怖片中o既經典. 呢齣戲好舊, 當時o既 special effect 同今時今日當然係不可同日而語, 但係亦因為如此, 所以拍得特別有心思, 唔似而家 d 戲咁成日飛條腸出嚟 d 水皮招數. 尤其係第一個 death scene, 由開始都結尾, 都令人覺得好緊張, 證實唔需要核突都可以拍到出色恐怖感. 如果你問我呢齣戲成為恐怖片驚唔驚, 我就覺得全片 98% 都唔驚, 好多時都係冇事發生, 只係為下個驚嚇 moment 準備, 但係真正要嚇你嗰時, 就真係會嚇到彈起. 例如最後同個女巫對峙嗰幕, 突然開門走個人入嚟嗰下真係睇到有心寒.

音樂亦非常出色, 同畫面顏一樣, 充滿夢幻同懸疑o既感覺. 上面 youtube 條片就係其中一首主題音樂, 俾你 feel 下.

總括嚟講, Suspiria 有排都未到 Omen 或 Exorcist 嗰種經典程度, 因為故事太弱. 不過亦一看無妨, 同而家荷里活唔係開肚爆腦就日式長髮女鬼好唔同.

My Bloody Valentine 3D

難得今日天氣好好, 冇雪落, 地上亦冇積雪, 所以同妹仔出去多倫多一日遊. 首先去 P-Mall. 其實都冇咩特別, 係勁食嘢, 食咗個好好食o既叉燒飯, 妹仔就買好多燒味攞走, 又買咗個大蛋糕, 又飲凍奶茶, 臨走仲買多兩底雞蛋仔, 由頭到尾都係食食食. 本來想買返隻魏如昀 CD 以表支持, 因為實在好鍾意呢隻碟, 不過竟然一隻都見唔到, 唯有遲下網上訂.

之後就過去 Mississauga 間 Silver City 睇 My Bloody Valentine 3D. 要去到咁遠睇, 因為 Hamilton 有一間戲院有做, 真係廢到無倫. 正如個戲名講, 呢齣係 3D 片, 要眼鏡睇. 齣戲冇乜特別, 係殺人狂電影, 講有條友仔周圍用鋤頭殺人. 立體片唔奇, 殺人片亦大把, 但係兩者合埋就令到呢齣戲好好玩, 當個兇手飛把刀埋你塊臉到, 當個被害者 d 血對住你噴埋嚟, 就會覺得張戲飛真係值得. 當然, 有好多專業影評話故事無聊, 演技差勁等等; 呢 d 評語真係可以不理, 因為人地好明顯只係要拍齣立體 b-movie 出嚟, 而結果我認為係非常成功. 作為一個對立體電影有興趣, 鍾意睇殺人狂電影o既觀眾, 我覺得睇呢齣戲嗰時得到好大o既樂趣. 我甚至認為, 其實從今以後所有 slasher movie 都應該咁拍, 要立體先夠真正好玩.

呢本我覺得仲好睇過我上次睇嗰本. 條橋好簡單, 一穿咗就會"哦"一聲, 省然大吾, 但係作者講故事o既技巧高超, 一路跟住劇情, 讀者竟然會慢慢唔記得最簡單o既事實, 感覺好似跳咗入書裡面o既兇手, 又或者係 Christie 所設計o既陷阱一樣, 不過係非常滿足o既感覺, 非常好玩. 個機關其實好簡單, 不過就係由頭睇到尾都睇唔到.

不過亦有缺點. 點會喺主要兇案之外仲同時間發生咁多其他古怪嘢? 實在太過巧合, 分明就係作者要用呢堆嘢出嚟分散讀者注意力.
